This original Black Forest cuckoo clock with a carved hipped roof and bell tower embodies Johanna Spyri's novel Heidi. It shows the orphan girl Heidi living with her reclusive grandfather in the Alps, where she meets Peter the goat herder. The wooden case is stained walnut and has windows with shutters and curtains. Around the house are fir trees and a well. The wooden cuckoo calls the number of hours on the hour (e.g., 3 times at 3 p.m.) and once on the half hour. This model has a manual night shut-off. The dial, numerals, and hands are also made of wood. The mechanical rack striking mechanism runs 24 hours. This clock is manufactured by Hönes in Titisee, a company deeply rooted in centuries-old clockmaking tradition and synonymous with Black Forest craftsmanship.
