Viola's beer garden features this original Black Forest cuckoo clock with a shingled hipped roof with dormers, chimney, and bell tower. The couple dances to the music and turns in a circle. The wooden cuckoo calls out the number of hours on the hour (e.g., 3 times at 3:00 p.m.) and once on the half hour. The beer drinkers move their arms. After the cuckoo call, one of the two melodies sounds every hour, accompanied by the turning of the water wheel and the dancers on the balcony dressed in Black Forest costumes. This model has a manual night shut-off. The clock face, numbers, and hands are also made of wood. The mechanical rake strike mechanism runs for one week. This beer garden is manufactured by Hekas in Schonach, which was founded in 1938 by Helmut Kammerer and is now in its third generation of “tradition in perfection.”
