The cuckoo opens the door on the hour, chirps and calls out the number of hours with an echo. Then one of the 12 different melodies sounds. There is a switch on the side to turn off the music separately or manually together with the cuckoo. A light sensor automatically switches off the sound in the dark, but the time continues to run. The clock face and hands are made of wood. This clock is operated by a battery-powered quartz movement that requires three 1.5V size C batteries.
